The “sheer, gel-like colour” that’s transforming the drugstore.
Where to Buy: Walmart
Price: around $7
I love that the advertising for these has been right on the money – sheer coverage, jelly colours. I was expecting a glossy tint when I bought these and not much else: easy spring lips. What I didn’t realize is that you can end up, if you want, with a glossy statement lip. Talk about buildable colour! The lasting power is nothing to scoff at either. I wore Berry Ready (85) for my Dad’s birthday supper and it lasted through the appetizer and the entree before it started to leave a ring around my mouth – pretty impressive for a balm-like lip product.
These come in a smart, colour-coordinated compact tube. With no excess material, it’s a sleek statement. I have a hard-time seeing how mid-range brands like MAC will stay afloat charging exorbitantly when you can get cheap, versatile variety at the drugstore (with the packaging game on lock). Here are the colours I have:
Go Nude (05): light warm nude
Bare To Be Bold (10): light fleshtone
Mocha Musa (20): medium tan
Pin Up Peach (30): medium warm pink
Coral Ambition (35): light pale peach
Orange Attitude (40): medium coral
Who Wore It Red-er (45): bright fuchsia
Made-It Mauve (80): medium browned berry
Berry Ready (85): deep wine
A Plum Prospect (100): medium cool violet
The formula isn’t perfect. I find them to be drying after a while, and a few of the darker colours are more sheer when you’d expect them to be more pigmented (A Plum Prospect and Made-It Mauve especially). On the whole though, I’d say these are worth your money.
See these shades swatched on my lips here.
